Alpha – the most dominant pup in the family/pack.

Beta – this person or pup is completely unable to take charge of a pack but is usually the Alpha's right hand/paw. This person or pup bends to the commands of the Alpha without question. Sometimes the Beta is allowed to give input or suggestions to the Alpha when asked for the better of the pack.

 

Collared – a human puppy wearing a collar usually symbolizes their relationship with another is said to be “owned”. A lockable collar may further symbolize a transfer of power from the submissive to the dominant holding the key.

Doggo – An alternate term for a dog used on meme pages to express the meaning of the picture. Usually found in captions.

 

Dominant – someone who controls and cares for a pup, this is also referred to as handler, caretaker or trainer. Someone in a dominant role who identifies as a pup or dog is known as the Alpha.

 

Mosh - a puppy mosh, mosh pit, or just plain mosh is normally a designated space (usually roped off or matted) where pups can romp, wrestle and play with each other. There are Active Areas that can become quite rough and tumble compared to the designated Quiet Area which is much more calm. Usually new or shy pups go to play there, hang out with their Handler, observing the other playful pups, or to cool down and rest from the Active Area.

 

Omega - the omega is the pup that prefers to avoid conflict, they tend to be mostly submissive and enjoy the role of being a pup.

Owner - this person owns the pup. They can also be the handler, trainer and caretaker, whatever titles they may have this persons word is final on their pup's care. Never go against an owner's decision unless it is harmful to their pup then interject or tell someone else to stop any abuse.

 

PAH (Puppy and Handler) - Is normally a regional or local group specifically for human puppies, handlers, and those interested in pup play.

 

Pack – the pup’s family; can be other human pups, real pups and bipeds (humans).


Pupmode – when the pup is actively in the role/mindset of a pup.

Pupspace – the mindset that a person goes into when they absorb themselves into puppy play as a pup.

Scene – the setting where pup play activities take place, sometimes called “playspace”.

Stray – an “unowned” pup, usually very hyperactive and annoying because they just want attention and someone to belong to, although they can go to the other extreme and be shy and unassuming. Many pups are "strays" for they do not have a owner, trainer, or a pack.

Submissive – a person in a relationship, gives themselves over to the rules and desires of the Dominant partner to serve/please them. A person who is submissive in the relationship is not necessarily submissive in life (or even as a pup). A submissive usually retains the right to say “NO” in such a relationship.

Trainer – a trainer takes an "owned" pup and trains the pup to the owner's request. Some trainers train at puppy classes for those pups that need some refreshing or just to be trained.

Uncollared –“unowned” or known as a “stray” is a pup who has not officially been collared.
